Between assessment and endurance
Five minutes is the most common length for a timed typing check, and ten minutes is a true endurance test. Seven minutes sits in between. It’s long enough that a strong start can’t carry your score, but short enough to do twice in one practice session. If you’re preparing for a test that runs longer than five minutes, this is a good way to get used to the extra stretch.

Pacing seven minutes
- Minutes 1–2: settle into a rhythm you could keep for much longer. Don’t chase your one-minute speed.
- Minutes 3–5: this is where accuracy usually slips. Read one word ahead and keep your hands relaxed.
- Minutes 6–7: hold the same pace. A steady finish beats a late sprint full of corrections.
