The standard benchmark
Ten seconds is the length most people mean when they talk about spacebar speed. It’s long enough to include a little fatigue and short enough to keep a fast pace. That makes it the fairest test for comparing scores, and the one most friends will have tried.
The weekly leaderboard here ranks 10-second scores only. Every submission is checked for auto-clicker-style timing.
Spacebar speed vs. mouse clicking speed
Most people score a little lower on the space bar than with a mouse button. The thumb is strong but slower to repeat than the index finger, and a space bar has more travel than a mouse switch. A spacebar score of 80–90% of your 10-second CPS is typical. If your spacebar score is higher, you’re probably using two thumbs or drumming with two fingers, which is a perfectly valid technique here.
10 seconds spacebar benchmarks
| Presses | Per second | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Under 50 | under 5 | Relaxed |
| 50–70 | 5–7 | Average |
| 70–90 | 7–9 | Fast |
| 90–120 | 9–12 | Very fast |
| 120+ | 12+ | Excellent |
Tips for this length
- Warm up with two or three 5-second runs first.
- Pace the first two seconds: aim for a flat speed graph.
- Use two thumbs if one-thumb speed has plateaued.

Frequently asked questions
How many times can the average person press the space bar in 10 seconds?
Roughly 50–70 presses (5–7 per second). 90+ presses is very fast.
Does holding the space bar count?
No. Operating-system key repeat is ignored. Only separate presses count, and on touch screens a tap on the pad counts as a press.
