Pure peak speed
Over one second, every press is worth a full point, so this test shows your fastest possible tapping. It’s also the most sensitive: one missed press changes your score a lot. Run it a few times and take your typical score, not a lucky one.
The timer starts on your first press, and that first press counts, so you get exactly one second from the moment you start.
How the 1-second count works
The timer starts on your first press, and that press counts, so the window is exactly 1,000 ms from the moment you start. Because the result is a whole number, one press more or less moves your score by a full point. That makes a single run noisy: two people with the same real speed can score 7 and 8. Run it five times and read your median, the middle result. It’s a fairer picture of your peak speed than your one lucky best.

| 6–8 | 6–8 | Average |

Tips for this length
- Pre-load your thumb: rest it on the bar with light pressure so the first press is instant.
- Two thumbs alternating almost always win over one second.
- Short, light taps: the less the key travels, the more presses fit in.

Frequently asked questions
How many times can you press the space bar in 1 second?
Most people manage 6–8 presses. 10+ is very fast, and 13+ usually takes two thumbs alternating.
Does holding the space bar count?
No. Operating-system key repeat is ignored. Only separate presses count, and on touch screens a tap on the pad counts as a press.
